Have you ever had engagement rings or a necklace that makes your skin green I’m sure you’ve wondered why that happens. Basically ; there is a reaction caused by basic metals to just about everyone who buys cheap jewelry. The greening can occur to some faster than others~ though, because everyone’s skin is different.
Even the more expensive jewelry can turn people’s skin green; because the expensive metals aren’t completely pure~ no matter how much it costs. Platinum hardly ever reacts with skin so you shouldn’t have to worry if you buy platinum jewelry.
To keep gold jewelry turning your skin green make sure that you don’t have plated gold – it has only a very fine coating of gold over top of a base metal and that coating wears off very quickly. If you have solid gold jewelry opting for 18 karat will lower your chances of green skin. Copper will also turn your skin green and you’ll have to just accept that if you wear copper.
Try to avoid wearing jewelry when you’re sweating a lot it can increase the green skin effect you might also ask your jeweler if they can add a layer of protective coating – to minimize the amount of green reaction your skin has. If you do this you can keep wearing your base metal jewelry without worry.
Remember~ the green discoloration isn’t harmful. It’s a chemical skin reaction and not an allergic reaction. Metal allergic reactions turn your skin red plus it could also make your skin feel itchy and inflamed. Which is a far cry from green skin.
If you do show signs of allery stop wearing the jewelry. If all you have is green skin you are safe to keep wearing the jewelry just be sure to keep the skin clean so its not ugly.
At the end of the day applying a coating is probably the answer.
